Paris proudly hosts two prestigious opera houses, each renowned for its unique architecture and cultural heritage:

Opéra Garnier (Palais Garnier)

Commissioned by Napoleon III and designed by architect Charles Garnier in the Neo-Baroque style, the Opéra Garnieris an iconic landmark and one of Paris’s architectural masterpieces. It is famous for the magnificent, brightly colored ceiling of its auditorium, painted by artist Marc Chagall.

 Location: Place de l’Opéra, 75009 Paris

 Main performances: Ballet, classical concerts, and some opera productions, predominantly classical repertoire.


Opéra Bastille

The modern counterpart to the historical Palais Garnier, the Opéra Bastille is primarily dedicated to opera performances, ballet, and concerts. Known for its contemporary design, it hosts world-class operatic productions throughout the year.

Théâtre du Châtelet

Although not operated by the Opéra National de Paris, the Théâtre du Châtelet is also a significant venue for opera performances, concerts, and musical theater, offering an outstanding cultural experience.

• The Opera Bastille is a great modern theatre, designed by Carlos Ott; it was inaugurated in 1989.
Its architecture is marked by the use of transparent façades and by the use of identical material for both the interiors and exteriors.
 


• The Theatre du Châtelet opened its doors for the very first time on 19 August 1862, in the presence of the Empress Eugénie.
It was designed by Gabriel Davioud at the request of the Baron Haussmann.

Concierge Tips: Booking & Attendance

 large number of tickets is first allocated to season subscribers at the Opéra National de Paris and Théâtre du Châtelet. However, thanks to our privileged contacts, we can often secure the best available orchestra section seats for our guests.

 We highly recommend booking in advance, as last-minute tickets are difficult to find and usually more expensive.

 Performances at the opera (dance, opera, concerts, etc.) typically begin at 7:00 PM sharp.

 After 7:00 PM, entrance to the auditorium is strictly forbidden.

 If you arrive late, access to the auditorium is only permitted after the first intermission.

 Dress code: Attending the opera in Paris is a special occasion, and elegant attire is recommended. Many Parisians still enjoy dressing up for an evening at the opera.
